At 6.6 cm (2.6-inch), the Wide Screen TFT colour display of the EX-Z80 is so large and wide that it takes up almost the entire rear side of the camera. This outstanding display enables you to take a closer look at your motifs, saved photos or films.

In its compact and elegant designer casing, the EXILIM EX-Z80 has an integrated high-performance 8.1 megapixel CCD chip. With 8.1 megapixel resolution, you not only create photos in outstanding quality and colour, but can also edit sections of the picture, enlarge them and print them out in your format of choice. This way, your most memorable moments and even the smallest details can be captured for eternity on XXL posters, as well as in photos.

Entirely automatic

If you take photos using the multi-focus, the camera measures the distance from the motif with the 9-Point Multi AF function at nine different points and sets the right focusing range. In addition, all the measured areas are displayed simultaneously which were the object of the focussing procedure. This means that every picture is extremely crisply focused.

Hold it there!

The practical Anti Blur Auto Shutter function helps prevent shaking and blurring caused by movement; it does this by taking the photograph at the precise moment when your hand or the moving subject becomes still.

You photograph the most beautiful settings and discover later that some pictures are blurred. Anti Shake DSP* prevents just that.

The Auto Macro function ensures sharpness in details or smaller settings. The EX-Z80 has focussing ranges of between 10 and 50 cm in macro range, i.e. close range.

Blurred images are usually the result of an unsteady camera action or subjects that move while the release button is being pressed. EXILIM offers a simple solution to the problem of blurred or shaky photos: The new Auto Shutter function can automatically determine the perfect moment to take a photo.

Working in conjunction with the Anti Blur Auto Shutter, Pan Auto Shutter, Smile Detection Auto Shutter and Self Portrait Auto Shutter functions, the new technology ensures rapid focus and takes the photo automatically when the image is steady, so the result is not impaired.

You don't have to be an expert to take great photos

BEST SHOT motif settings are extremely practical and therefore can be accessed immediately at the touch of a button. From "Landscape" to "Sunset" your EX-Z80 readily adjusts to the most varied demands, regardless of whether you are taking photos or movies.

Use the Button Customizer to assign one of five functions to the EXILIM EX-Z80 cursor keys. Then you will have quick access to the Continuous Shooting, EV displacement, white balance, ISO setting, and self-timer.

Diary

The Calendar function offers a new way to store your photos. For each day that you have taken a picture, a photo is displayed as an example. In this way you can find pictures more easily or you can make a photo diary. At a glance you can see parts of what you experienced on vacation on that particular day.

Up to date

Does the wrong date appear, because you have changed the settings without realizing it? Or was the time on the clock not adapted to the local time when travelling? The Date Edit function has the perfect solution to precisely these problems. The date and time can be corrected easily after the photo has been taken.

The extremely powerful EXILIM Engine 2.0 combines multiple components in a compact space, works extremely quickly and saves energy. The image processor also has sufficient capacity for the hue adjustment function used to optimise dark areas of your pictures, targeted noise elimination in critical colour areas and quicker image processing. And the new EXILIM Engine 2.0 also ensures quick reaction times and long battery operating times – which creates great pictures.

The right lighting

It is not always possible to assess a fault in lighting before taking the picture. When the release button is pressed down halfway, the Exposure Warning is activated and automatically draws your attention to insufficient or excess lighting.

The simple touch

Whether you're on holiday, at a party or spending time with your family - people are particularly popular subjects for a photo. It's a shame if faces turn out to be blurred. Practical: The Face Detection function recognises faces and automatically calculates the optimum setting for focus. Once it has recognised a face, it tracks it for as long as it remains within the image area.

Faces in focus

The Face Detection function recognizes faces in the picture. Extremely clever: The Face Recognition function can save up to 6 faces via a biometric mask. If several faces appear on a photo when taking a picture, the Face Recognition function focuses primarily on faces which have been saved previously in the family register. This enables you to set "preferences" for certain people when taking a photograph at family celebrations.

Problem detected

With flash shots the background often remains dark. The subject is only slightly lit. The solution: Flash Assist. With this function the subject can, in many cases, still be corrected automatically.

As standard

When you press and hold the release button, the EX-Z80 takes a photo every second. With the super highspeed continuous shooting, up to 5 photos* can be taken in the space of one second. The number of photos is limited only by the size of your memory card.

With the Highspeed Image Scrolling function you can scroll through ten shots a second and thus find the right one quickly.

Questions on how it works?

Many of the EXILIM Zoom EX-Z80 functions are all but self-explanatory. The Icon Help function stands for small, helpful flashes on the camera screen that tell you about the setting you have currently selected.

Precise analysis

The Motion Analysis technology automatically registers and analyses the speed and direction of a moving subject – ISO sensitivity and exposure time are then optimally adjusted as appropriate.

Simply practical

The movie stabilisation function* can reduce the risk of filming scenes which are wobbly because the camera has not been held still. This function can stabilise unwanted movements, which often produces better pictures.

The arrangement of the operation panel on the display is particularly clear and enables the user to move quickly between the various adjustment features.

Always on the move

Fast-moving subjects are hard to capture on camera. When you activate the Pan Auto Shutter function, the photo is automatically triggered as soon as the moving subject becomes still in the frame, e.g. when you follow it with the camera.

Getting the right angle

Pictures taken in a portrait format can be manually rotated for playback in landscape format. Now you don't have to turn the camera or your head in order to look at the picture.

How fast is really fast

The EXILIM Zoom EX-Z80 has a shutter speed of approx. 0.008 seconds* after successful focussing.

Shoot photos faster

With moving subjects an autofocus must keep resetting itself - and this wastes time. The Quick Shutter turns the autofocus off when the shutter is immediately pushed down fully. The time between pressing the shutter and shooting starting is now only approx. 0.008 seconds*.

Colour control

The RGB histogram displays the fractions of red, green and blue. So you have an overview of the colour components in your picture and can correct if required, by adjusting the diaphragm or using colour filters. The RGB histogram is in addition to the black-and-white histogram, with which you can control the light/dark contrast of a motif.

Are we all in the photo?

Totally practical: the Self Portrait Auto Shutter function enables the camera to recognise faces. Once the release button is pressed, the camera prepares to take the photo and automatically does so once the faces of the subjects are located within the frame.

No smile, no photo!

Smile and the world smiles with you! The innovative Smile Detection Auto Shutter function ensures that you will never again miss that smile when taking photos. Press the release button as soon as you have the faces in the frame. The photo will then be taken, fully automatically, once the subjects are smiling.

No computer needed

You can connect the EXILIM EX-Z80 directly to a printer and have your pictures in your hand soon afterwards, printed on photo paper. USB Direct Print ist the standard EPSON printer. PictBridge connects your camera to different manufacturers' printers. Preset paper sizes help to select the right format.

You can adapt the flash of the EXILIM Zoom EX-Z80 to different situations. The following presets are available for this:
