The EXILIM with 3X Optical Zoom! "EXILIM Zoom" The slim, trim optical zoom digital camera With 3.2-megapixel CCD and built-in 2-inch monitor screen |
CASIO COMPUTER CO., LTD. announces the EXILIM Zoom EX-Z3, the latest addition to the EXILIM Series of card-size LCD digital cameras. The new EX-Z3 features a CCD with 3.2 megapixels plus a high-performance 3X zoom lens.
EXILIM is the CASIO-original "wearable card camera" that packs LCD digital camera capabilities into a card-size configuration for take-along-anywhere digital imaging whenever those special moments occur. Last year's release of 1.24-megapixel and 2-megapixel EXILIM models showed that the world was more than ready for a go-anywhere digital camera capable of high-speed response.
The new EX-Z3 is a high-performance digital camera, and the first EXILIM Series model to come equipped with 3.2 megapixels and 3X optical zoom. A new type of 3-segment telescoping type zoom mechanism and Stack MCM* chip mounting makes is possible to pack everything into a thin and compact 87(W) x 57(H) x 22.9(D) mm configuration (19.7 mm at thinnest point). The body of the EX-Z3 is made of silver finish lightweight aluminum alloy. Everything about the EX-Z3 is designed an engineered for the ultimate in simple operation and modern styling.
*Stack Multi-Chip Module:
A technique that makes high-density mounting possible by stacking chips.
3X optical zoom lens in a slim-configuration card-size camera
The lens of the EX-Z3 uses a totally new type of 3-segment telescoping lens mechanism that makes it possible to provide 3X optical zoom capabilities in an amazingly thin configuration. The stylish card configuration of the camera is made possible by "Stack MCM" mounting, which makes it possible to stack chips and reduce space requirements by about 40% (compared with the MCM mounting method used for the EXILIM EX-S2 and EX-M2).
Quick response ensures you get the images you want
A new type of zoom lens and an optimized startup controller minimize the wait before the camera is ready to shoot after power is turned on. This plus the world's fastest release time lag (0.01 second) helps to ensure that you are able to capture that special moment as it happens.
Big 2.0-inch LCD monitor screen
The big, easy-to-read 2.0-inch TFT LCD monitor screen of the EX-Z3 features a digital interface for clearer display images. You can use the monitor screen as a viewfinder to compose images or for on-the-spot checking of recorded images. Other monitor screen functions include a Photo Stand feature for displaying images while the camera is on its cradle, a full month calendar that shows the first image recorded during each day, and much more.

Card-size digital camera with 3X optical zoom
The lens of the EX-Z3 uses a totally new type of 3-segment telescoping lens mechanism that makes it possible to provide 3X optical zoom capabilities in an amazingly thin configuration. A new "Stack MCM" mounting process makes it possible to stack chips and reduce space requirements by about 40%.
0.01 second release time lag
A CASIO original LSI system reduces the release time lag (the time it takes until exposure starts after the shutter release is pressed) to a mere 0.01 second,* which ensures that you are able to capture the image that is in the viewfinder when you press the shutter release.
* Time from when the shutter release button is fully depressed with the monitor screen
and built-in flash turned off, and focus locked.
Big 2.0-inch LCD monitor screen
The big 2.0-inch TFT LCD monitor screen of the EX-Z3 features a digital interface for clearer display images. The monitor screen can be used to arrange images, and a collection of display features help to make image viewing simpler and more fun than ever before.
Photo Stand Feature
Placing the EX-Z3 onto its cradle and pressing the Photo button starts a slideshow of images currently in image memory. You can even set up the camera to display the images you want whenever it is placed on the cradle
Calendar Screen
Each date of the full month calendar screen shows a thumbnail of the first image recorded on each date. This visual diary of images makes it possible for you to quickly search for and locate the image you want.
3.2 million effective pixels for high-resolution imaging
The EX-Z3 CCD provides 3.34 total pixels of high-resolution digital imaging. This level of resolution makes it possible to capture all the nuances of subtle flesh tones and fine details of scenery shots, and primary color filtering ensures vivid colors every time.
Best Shot Mode for instant setups
The Best Shot Mode provides optimum camera setups in an instant. Simply select the sample scene that is similar to the image you want to record, and the camera's light metering, exposure compensation, saturation, and other settings are configured accordingly. The EX-Z3 has total of 21 sample scenes built in, including "Coupling Shot" and "Pre Shot."
Coupling Shot
When there are only two people present, Person A composes the image of Person B against a background and presses the shutter release. This freezes the image on the monitor screen. Then they switch places, and Person B composes the final image now with Person A included. The final recorded image shows both Person A and Person B, as if the were both standing in front of the camera.
Pre Shot
With Pre Shot, you compose the background you want and press the shutter release. This freezes the background image on the monitor screen. Then you can ask someone else to record your image, using the frozen background as a composition guide. The final recorded image shows you against the background you want.
Triple Self-timer
The Triple Self-timer records three consecutive shots with a single shutter release button operation. Then you can select the best of the three and keep it.
Useful World Time and Alarm functions
World Time lets you select one of 162 cities in 32 time zones around the world as your home time. When traveling to another time zone, simply select the applicable city, and time and date settings are adjusted automatically. A total of three independent alarms help to make sure you are on time all the time. You can even have a specific image appear when an alarm time is reached.
Automatic image transfer to a computer with the press of the cradle's USB button
Photo Loader
Simply connect the cradle to your computer, place the EX-Z3 onto the cradle, and press the cradle's USB button, and PhotoLoader automatically transfers all JPEG and AVI files in image memory to the computer
Photohands
Photohands provides you with image editing capabilities for color, contrast, brightness, and other parameters. To start up Photohands, simply click the Photo Loader print button.
