EXILIM Engine HS

The heart of the EX-ZR15 is the new EXILIM Engine HS with high-speed recording function. The innovative image processor sets new standards in subject recognition and high-speed image processing, and has been developed to allow you to take better pictures — quickly, easily and reliably. The EXILIM Engine HS successfully overcomes every challenge, such as backlight, portrait, landscape and night shots and difficult lighting conditions, by analysing all environmental elements and immediately optimising your camera's settings. As a result, the image processor provides new options in photography, such as the HDR ART function or the option to record videos and take photos at the same time. Whether you want brilliant colour reproduction, high-resolution image processing or fast response times, the EXILIM Engine HS produces detailed images without loss of contrast, focus or colour, within seconds.

7x optical zoom with mechanical image stabiliser

It's easy to zoom in on those special moments: The 7x optical zoom can bring even the most distant subjects right up close, while the mechanical image stabiliser automatically reduces blurring. You can also use the 7x optical zoom during film recording — a highly sophisticated feature. The EX-ZR15 proves itself in every life situation and always provides amazing photos and films.

28 mm wide-angle lens

Whether for landscape photos, tourist sights or group pictures in confined spaces: the 28 mm wide-angle lens* makes the EX-ZR15 your perfect companion whatever the occasion. The 28 mm focal length allows you to capture a larger area and include several friends in a group photo from only a short distance away.

Wide shot function

When it comes to selecting subjects, the EX-ZR15 knows no limits: 17 and 21 mm super-wide angle settings are available in addition to the 28 mm wide-angle lens. Using the high-speed continuous shutter, the camera combines several individual images taken in a swivelling motion to form an impressive super-wide angle image.

Background blur function

In addition to the familiar motif programs, the EX-ZR15 also features a background blur function. Using High-speed Continuous Shooting, the image background is processed in such as way as to achieve a slightly blurred effect, which accentuates the subject of the photo and softens the background — just like an SLR camera.

HDR technology

Press the shutter release button, and the HDR function creates multiple shots with different lighting, and combines these into a brilliant single photo with high contrast depth. With this function, both light and dark surfaces are evenly accentuated, whereas areas that are too bright or too dark are attenuated. This innovative technology is made possible by means of the new EXILIM Engine HS with high-speed recording and the "High-Sensitivity CMOS Sensor"

HDR ART function

Why not see the world through different eyes for a change? The HDR ART function makes this possible; it creates artistic photos that are completely different to conventional ones. For small works of art, the HDR ART technology simply combines shots with different lighting, performs a precise image analysis and adjusts the contrast and colour saturation at the appropriate points. This makes for unique effects that would otherwise only be possible with special software — and all by simply pressing the shutter release button.

Panorama function

Expand your field of vision and discover new perspectives. Whether it's a magnificent panorama of the Alps, a group photo of whatever kind, or an exciting urban scene — the panorama function of the EX-ZR15 gives you extremely wide panorama images with a huge field of vision of up to 360 degrees. Even when the camera pans, moving objects and faces are recognised and the images adapted such that distortions and blurring are kept to a minimum.

Full HD videos and HDMI connection

Film your videos in full High Definition quality*! Thanks to the EX-ZR15, you are now able to capture brilliant videos in full HD (H.264) with a resolution of up to 1920x1080 pixels, 7x optical zoom and stereo sound. And what's more, while recording films you can continue to take photos with the High-speed Continuous Shooting feature. The EX-ZR15 also features a mini HDMI output socket and can be connected to an HD-compatible TV using a HDMI cable (ordered separately) — allowing you to view the videos on a large screen whenever it suits you.

Additional high speed functions

Speed — an impressive speed for unique shots. In the time it takes for other cameras to extend their lenses, you can already have captured top-quality photos and videos: the EX-ZR15 is ready for use in approximately 0.99 seconds*. To enable the photographer to quickly capture different subjects or scenes, several photos can be taken successively at intervals of just 0.29 seconds. What's more, the camera is fitted with an extremely high-speed auto-focus function, which takes just 0.13 seconds to find the focal point and bring it into focus, meaning you need never miss a beautiful, exciting or unique moment ever again.

High-Speed Best Selection

To ensure that you capture the perfect moment, the EX-ZR15 can select the best photos from a series of shots automatically – showing a smiling face, open eyes and without blurring. The best images are saved.

16.1 megapixels

The high-sensitivity CMOS sensor with 16.1 megapixels allows you to take high-resolution shots with low noise, full of brilliant colour — even in low light. 16.1 megapixels are perfect for editing, enlarging and printing sections of photos without any reduction in picture quality.

BEST SHOT mode

The EX-ZR15 comes with over 39 flexible pre-settings for a variety of situations to help ensure that photos automatically turn out well. With BEST SHOT, you can also create and save your own settings, which can be selected at any time.

High-sensitivity CMOS sensor

Dark rooms, twilight or poor lighting conditions? You can still take outstanding photos! The EXILIM EX-ZR15 is equipped with a new High-sensitivity CMOS sensor for extraordinarily detailed shots, even in poor lighting conditions. It also processes the photos much faster. A new technology allows the sensor to capture more light and increases sensitivity while simultaneously reducing image noise considerably. The outcome is outstanding — detailed photos with excellent contrasts and rich colours.

Face detection function

Whether on holiday, at a party or with the family, people are an especially popular subject for photos. It is a shame then, when their faces are blurred. Practical: The face detection function recognises individual faces or even entire groups and automatically determines the best possible setting.

Lighting function

The EX-ZR15 can recognize and correct difficult light situations: the light function optimizes the brightness of faces automatically even in scenes with backlight simply by pressing the release button. Even the sky or buildings in the background that are subject to overexposure are rendered in full colour.

High-speed Night Scene

High-speed Night Scene uses High-speed Continuous Shooting to the max for clearer images at dawn and poor lighting conditions. The positions of consecutive photos are automatically combined to form one optimised photo. The danger of blurred photos is reduced when taking photos at night, even without using a tripod.

Premium Auto mode

Portrait, landscape, night or backlight photography: you will be able to take the most amazing photos with the EXILIM EX-ZR15 even in poor lighting conditions. The highlight: In Premium Auto mode, the camera automatically recognises typical subject scenarios and adjusts the settings accordingly. Depending on the exposure conditions, BEST SHOT motif programs such as Auto BEST SHOT, night shot without tripod, Make-up mode, Landscape mode or Intelligent AF are activated. In this way, movements, shaking, backlight and even faces of people are automatically detected and perfectly focused and exposed. No need to worry which BEST SHOT mode is best suited for the situation; you can just focus completely on your subject. This results in top-quality, high-resolution photos. The EXILIM EX-ZR15 is equipped with a separate Premium Auto mode button for quick activation and deactivation of the function.

Pre-record mode

With the EX-ZR15, it's not only possible to take photos when the shutter release button is pressed — you can also take photos before that! With continuous recording of up to 30 photos per second, a maximum of 25 photos can be saved in the camera's buffer memory — even before the shutter release button is pressed.

Multi Frame SR Zoom

The 7x optical zoom allows for shots that are extremely accurate in every detail. By using the Multi Frame SR Zoom, which combines multiple shots into a single sharp, clear photo, the zoom area can be doubled once again. This means the 7x optical zoom is converted to a 14x zoom with virtually optical zoom quality. So you won't miss out on a single detail!

Advanced Auto Tracking AF Function

Dogs running, kids jumping around, moving cars - there are countless examples of moving subjects, which can try the patience of even professional photographers. Thanks to the Auto Tracking AF function with motion analysis, you can relax and concentrate on the overall subject. Press the release button half way down, to fix the focus for saving – as soon as you see the picture you want, simply press release!

Memory card slot

The EX-ZR15 can save your photos and films on SD, SDHC or SDXC cards as required*. You are now free to decide which of these optional cards you would like to use.

Extremely bright, large 7.6 cm TFT colour display (super clear LCD)

The EX-ZR15 features a large, bright 7.6 cm (3.0 inch) TFT colour display (super clear LCD) that permits viewing from almost any angle. In addition to the large viewing angle and a high resolution of 460,800 pixels, the TFT colour display provides above-average contrast, thus assuring an especially clear and sharp image of your subject. The display offers above-average brightness to simplify viewing of your images, even in sunlight. You can select from 5 presets to match the brightness to the ambient lighting conditions: -1/0/+1/+2/Auto

High-speed Movie Recording

The EX-ZR15 can produce high-speed film recordings of movements that are too fast for the naked eye, enabling them to be played back in ultra-slow motion. Select a recording speed of HS30fps - HS120fps or HS30fps - HS240fps. Simply press the Movie button and start filming.

Pre-record mode

Pre-record can do just that! If you do not press the shutter release on time in important moments, the past 5 seconds will already have been saved!
How does Pre-record work? In this mode, the camera is constantly making recordings - and when you press the shutter release, the last 5 seconds are added to your current recording.

YouTube™ Ready

It has never been easier to upload your videos to YouTube™. Thanks to the EX-ZR15, you can now film your experiences in the optimum video size and quality for YouTube™*! Films are automatically saved in a separate folder on the memory card — an exclusive piece of software then accesses this folder, making uploading your videos to YouTube™ child's play.

Various flash functions

You can adapt the flash on the EXILIM EX-ZR15 for various situations. The following pre-settings are available:

- Red eye reduction: reduces the effect of "red eye"
- Auto: Flash is automatically activated when required
- On: Flash always on
- Off: Flash always off.
